Original Nov 9, 1863 letter to Gen James W. Ripley from the Invalid Corps concerning inventory of arms and equipment.
Although unsigned, this letter is attributed to Colonel Charles Johnson, 1st Lieut. of 22nd Co, 2nd Battalion.
Writing from the Douglas Hospital in Wash DC.
Johnson states in his letter that he was assigned to this command on the 20th of August.
From the book "The Civil War Letters of Colonel Charles F. Johnson Invalid Corps" there is one letter noted to his wife about his new assignment.
Ripley was a very well known "Chief of Ordnance"  with a lot of information on the web.
The document is in EX condition with natural filing folds.

As I have no invoices as vouchers to my Returns I respectfully submit the following statement to show how I came in possession of the Ordnance and Ordnance Stores borne on the Returns.
On the 20
th
of August I was assigned to the command of the 22d Co 2
nd
Battalion, Invalid Corps.  I found on inspection that the men had in their
possession, the arms and equipment borne on my return; and signified my willingness to Lieut. Stone to receipt for that number but he assented that there should be 82 sets of arms and equipments and refused to make the invoices out for any less than that number.
I certify on honor that the above is a true statement.
