    Description

NO RESERVE. We're offering here a beautifully detailed set of three 1/700 scale Dornier Do 217K-2 bomber models that have just come out of the 3D printer! The Do 217K-2 was an advanced version of the Do 17 bomber specifically designed to deliver one of history's first operationally used stand-off missiles, the Fritz X, which was developed for use against Allied shipping. The Fritz X was actually a steerable, free-fall, 3,454 lb armor piercing bomb that could be launched from over 5-1/2 miles, approaching the target at speeds of up to 630 mph. Units flying the Do 217K-2 commenced operations in the Bay of Biscay and in the Mediterranean in late August 1943 and achieved some success against Allied targets notably including the sinking of the Italian battleship Roma (and damaging the Italia) on September 9, 1943 with Fritz X missiles.
This is the first model of a Do 217K-2 ever produced in 1/700 scale. We think that the 3D printed models offered here easily rival (and probably exceed) the quality of comparable WEM resin and Pit-road white metal models but we've posted some high resolution photos so you can judge for yourself. While photography of these little gems is a challenge for our equipment and limited skills, check out the well proportioned model including the detailed canopy and glazed nose, turrets, engines, tail assembly and,
in particular, the tiny but beautifully rendered Fritz X missiles under the wings!
The surfaces are not perfectly smooth (3D printing is done in layers) but the plastic used can be sanded and painted much the same way you would handle resin or styrene. The models may still have some powder and oil-like agent on them that needs to be removed by washing in warm water with a drop of detergent added to it.
While the landing gear is represented in the retracted in-flight position, it should be fairly straight forward to add photo etch parts for a "gear down" rendition, perfect for an air base diorama.
These Do 217K-2 models should be a welcome addition to any WW2 wargamer's or 1/700 modeler's collection, particularly those interested in early Luftwaffe anti-shipping operations. Please take a look at the other 1/700 scale aircraft models that we have on auction as well. We're always happy to combine shipping for multiple purchases to save whenever possible. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions whatsoever.
