    Description

NO RESERVE. We're offering here a beautifully detailed 1/700 scale Kawanishi H6K 'Mavis' model that has just come out of the 3D printer!
The Kawanishi H6K saw early operational service during the Sino-Japanese War and was used extensively at there outbreak of the Pacific War with 66 of the type being operated by four Kokutai. The H6K had incredible endurance and was capable of undertaking 24-hour patrols. Although primarily deployed in reconnaissance and transport roles, H6Ks were also used in very long range bombing missions against targets in the Dutch East Indies and Rabual at the beginning of the war. They played a key role in locating American task forces during 1942, particularly in the battles off Guadalcanal. The H6K5 (given the Allied code name 'Mavis') was the final production variant which incorporated upgraded engines and defensive armament including a dorsal turret located behind the cockpit that replaced the open bow gun position of its predecessor, the H6K4. 215 H6Ks of all variants were produced before production ended in 1943.
The H6K was a BIG airplane and it is an impressive (if delicate) model even in 1/700 scale with a wingspan of about 2-1/4" (5.71 cm). While photography of these little gems is a challenge for our equipment and limited skills, check out the well proportioned model including the the fuselage with detailed cockpit, windows, dorsal turret and waist gun positions; the twin tail assembly; the huge parasol wing with four engine nacelles supported by a network of wing struts and the outboard stabilizing floats on delicate pylons.
The surfaces of the model are not perfectly smooth (3D printing is done in layers) but the plastic used can be sanded and painted much the same way you would handle resin or styrene. The models may still have some powder and oil-like agent on them that can be removed by washing in warm water with a drop of detergent added to it.
This outstanding H6K flying boat model should be a welcome addition to any wargamer's or 1/700 modeler's collection, particularly those interested in IJN maritime patrol and transport operations. Please take a look at the other 1/700 scale aircraft models that we have on auction this week as well. We're always happy to combine shipping for multiple purchases to save whenever possible.
