    Description

NO RESERVE. We're offering here a set of four beautifully detailed SA-2 Guideline SAM missiles with M-63 Launcher models that have just come out of the 3D printer. The S-75 Dvina (NATO reporting name SA-2 Guideline) was first deployed by the Soviet Union in 1957 and has since become the most widely deployed and successful air defense system in history. A Taiwanese RB-57D became the S-75's first victim when it was shot down at an altitude of 65,600 ft. (20 km) by three V-750s ov er China on 7 October 1959 although the loss was attributed to Chinese fighter aircraft at the time to keep the S-75 program secret. The system gained international fame when a newer, longer-range, higher-altitude V-750VN missile shot down a high-altitude US Air Force U-2 piloted by Francis Gary Powers overflying the Soviet Union on 1 May 1960. The S-75 was also deployed in Cuba where on 27 October 1962 one shot down another U-2 during the Cuban Missile Crisis, nearly precipitating nuclear war. S-75s were extensively used by the North Vietnamese against American air attacks against Hanoi and Haiphong in the Vietnam War. Despite the employment of electronic countermeasures, the Americans lost many aircraft although the loss rate of high-altitude B-52Es used in Operation Linebacker II was only 2% (15 lost for 729 missiles fired). The S-75 system was also used
widely throughout the world, especially in the Middle East, where Egypt and Syria used them to defend against the Israeli Air Force and remains in place in a number of countries to this day.
We believe that these are the first SA-2 Guideline models ever produced in 1/700 scale. This set contains two different models of the SA-2 missile on its m-63 Launcher; (x2) with the missile in a lowered position and (x2) in the elevated, firing position. Note that the model of the SA-2 Transporter that appears in the background of photo #5 is not included in this auction. The 3D printed models offered here compare very favorably with comparable WEM resin model and Pit-Road white metal models and, in fact, likely surpass both by a good margin but w e've posted high resolution photos so you can judge for yourself. While photography of these little gems is a challenge for our equipment and limited skills, check out the well proportioned models including the slender SA-2 with delicate stabilizing fins, beautifully rendered in missile down and launch positions on a beautifully detailed M-63-1 launcher.
Although the surfaces are not perfectly smooth (3D printing is done in layers), the plastic used can be sanded and painted much the same way you would handle resin or styrene. The models may still have some powder and oil-like agent on them that needs to be removed by washing in warm water with a drop of detergent in it.
These outstanding SA-2 SAM models should be a welcome addition to any wargamer's or 1/700 modeler's collection, particularly those interested in USAF bomber operations in Vietnam . Please take a look at the other 1/700 scale aircraft models that we have on auction as well. We're always happy to combine shipping for multiple purchases to save whenever possible. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions whatsoever.
