Description
This is an interesting, large, high relief solid10k gold antique cameo ring, carved from banded agate (hard stone).  It boasts three colors--the black color of the actual cameo carving of the soldier, with the base being the reddish color with a white layer (see side views). It's a very nice cameo ring.  If you're a collector, hopefully you'll see the value in this tri-colored high relief carving.
In addition to the beautiful male soldier carving, the mounting is made by F F Felger, which was a designer consigned to make jewelry for Tiffany. It is rare to see designs in 10k by Felger, but this ring is hallmarked with 10K and Felger's FFF stamp.
This ring has a lot of interesting characteristics.  First off, these cameo "soldier" rings are usually done in men's styles, but this is clearly a woman's ring as noted by the thin shank and finger size of 5.75.  The black onyx high relief cameo faces left, which is also rare--only about 20% of cameos face left, as they are carved by left-handed artists.  It features the image of a Roman or Greek soldier with helmet and armour--but there is also a tiny face carved upon the breastplate of the soldier (see photos) which is quite a mystery.  The carving is pristine, with no chips cracks or otherwise.  It  is set in a square bezel with decorative shoulders on the shank of the ring.
The face measures 7/8" top to bottom. The ring is hallmarked 10k FFF.  It is a size 5.75, weighs 7.8 grams and is in excellent antique condition.
