    Description

Pocket Memorandum Almanac (just over 3” by 5” and a bit under ¼” thick) for 1861, published by Hutchinson & Bullard of Hartford, Connecticut. The diary or memorandum sections are entirely blank—no entries and no notes or writing of any sort. The little book has plain green covers with advertising inside the front cover for Hutchinson & Bullard, Publishers, Booksellers & Stationers, 372 Main Street, Hartford, Conn. There’s an advertisement on the inside back cover for Grover & Baker’s Sewing Machines, featuring an illustration of a woman seated in front of one of their machines, with one last advertisement on the facing page for Aetna Insurance Company of Hartford. This is an inexpensive type of small memorandum book, likely sold cheaply or even given away as a premium by Hutchinson & Bullard. The only thing I found inside it was an obituary for a woman who died in Voluntown CT in 1900. Too bad a soldier from the 3
    rd
Connecticut Infantry didn’t own this and carry it through the Battle of Bull Run! It still would be a great haversack stuffer for a Civil War reenactor or even just a display prop for your collection of War of the Rebellion artifacts. The memorandum almanac book is in good condition with only light wear and soiling. It has a piece of green cover missing at the bottom of the spine and some rubbing and bumping at the corners. The interior pages are generally clean, but there are some browns spots scattered about. A nice unused 1861 pocket diary!
