April 28, 1864 Confederate letter written by soldier Theophilus Paxton (1842-1865) who served in Co. F 23rd Va Infantry and was wounded at Chancellorsville. It reads in part:"There is no news of importance. We expect to leave camp soon. I have today been baptised. I feel happy knowing that it is the command of our saviour. I send you a certificate which I wish you to present to the Lexington church. There were 8 baptised beside myself. There was some 30 converts at 10th Va Rgt." Authentic Civil War letter.
