    Description

    1868 letter written and signed by George Washington Morgan (1820-1893), a civil war general and diplomat.  He was ambassodor to Portugal 1858-61 and served in congress from Ohio 1867-68 and 1869-73.  He was a lawyer, had service in the Mexican War (breveted as brigadier general after serive as colonel of the 2nd Ohio and the 15th US infantry).  He was appointed brigadier genreal again in 1861, but resigned his commission in 1863.  Short letter regarding political matters; affixed at top to album page.  Portrait of Morgan accompanies.
