Description
1880 letter written and signed by Samuel W. Crawford (1829-1892), a civil war brigadier general who had been the post surgeon at Fort Sumter. He was wounded at Antietam and was in significant action at Gettysburg; he was present at Appamattox. Letter's pages are adhered at left (like a hinge) from a prior mounting but open out to be read; letter acknowledges election to the board of directors of a gettysburg memorial association; on stationery of the Union Club. Neat item; he was active in preservation of the Gettysburg battlefield and there is a statue of him at Gettysburg, dedicated in 1988.This material comes from the Civil War autograph, manuscript and document collection formed by Frederick Peck and is guaranteed original and genuine.
