    Description

    small autograph note of John M. Schofield (1831-1906), a civil war major general with leadership of the 23rd corps; he was awarded the Medal of Honor for service at Wilson's Creek.  1853 West Point Grad; later served as Secretary of War under Johnson 1868-9 and as commanding general of the US army 1888-1895.  Note is a response to a request for an autograph and has a few thin spots from prior mounting.
