This toy flute or pan pipe has "Calliope" printed on the label.  These were patented on August 20, 1889 (#409,315) by the Bostwick & Burgess Mfg. Co. of Norwalk, Ohio. This version with Uncle Sam handing out Calliopes on the right side of label and the banner "
    World's Fair"
was made for Chicago World's Fair of 1893. There are other variations, one having the word "Calliope" on the front, one having "Music in A Sinner's Ear" and another with "Columbia Exposition."  They are all very rare.
Has strange looking characters on front and has been suggested, these are Palmer Cox Brownies.
Has some browning of front paper due to age which is typical of the ones that have survived. Also has a couple spots, mostly on two lower corners where surface detail is missing.  Made of Wood with paper label.
