Penny Bisque Dolls
- These dolls were made during the 19th century through the 1930's in Germany, France and Japan. They were
often sold in sweet shops for a penny.
Most of them
were made in bisque and hand painted with bright colors. Since the bisque is not fired a second time after painting the paint wears off easy. Value is usually based on details, condition of paint and arm positions, with crossed arms the most unusual.
Some of the ones from Japan were were patriotically smashed during World War II. This one made it through the purge but does have paint wear. His facial expression and pose with the hand in the pocket is darling.

I am careful about packaging and shipping. Insurance for the purchase price is included in the shipping fee unless shipped USPS 1st class. If you choose to ship this USPS Priority, you will need to file a claim with the carrier to recover any damages that occur in transit.
I will try to combine shipping with other items if this can safely fit in the same package. I am a BIG believer in either
using
compostable materials or
re-using non-compostable packaging material
. The tape I use is also compostable, and if there is any plastic or Styrofoam
in the packaging to you, it is because someone sent it to me.
Because of the price of this item and my attempt to cut shipping costs for you, I am offering shipping via USPS First Class. This can be less expensive, but does not include insurance or tracking. If you would like insurance and tracking, please choose USPS Priority.
I do not accept returns unless I make a significant error in the description that isn't shown in the pictures. I take high resolution photos with decent lighting. Please blow up the pictures to make sure you are happy with what you are buying. I try not to make mistakes, but they happen. Please contact me if you feel I made a big one and I will try to correct it. Finding and sharing cool treasures is actually fun for me and I want you to be happy.
