Description
This Certificate of Muster is for Ransom Whitney of Tunbridge, Vermont, who mustered in on September 2, 1864 for a term of one year.A 0 bounty was paid to Joseph Whitney (perhaps Ransom's father?) for signing up. The signature of Ransom Whitney is very shaky, and smeared, perhaps due to his state of mind at the prospect of signing up.
Ransom Whitney was a Private in the 2nd Regiment of the Vermont Infantry, which saw action at the siege of Petersburg and Lee's surrender at Appomattox Courthouse after Ransom Whitney mustered in.
The document is in very good condition, with no folds or tears. Some of the ink is lightly faded, but it is all in legible condition.
It measures 7 3/4 inches by 9 3/4 inches.
A great piece of history from a Union soldier who saw the last great battles of the Civil War!
