Description
This antique clarinet is marked on the upper section and the bell "E. Baack New York". the bell is cracked in several places and missing a piece near the rim. The rest of the instrument is in rough condition, someone used the old first aid adhesive tape in various places. The wood appears to be some kind of Dalbergia species. I did no cleaning of this instrument.
I am not a woodwind player and know nothing about this or the value. It was stored for many years in a basement and not in a case.
I wondered if some of the ferrules or valves were sterling but they aren't marked and I did not polish them. It appears that some valves or parts of valves are missing but I am not sure.
The mouth piece seems to be altered also, I dont see how it would hold a reed.
The length overall when assembles is 22 1/4" long.
I learned that Edward Baack made woodwind instruments in New York between 1837 and 1872.
BTW I will be listing a section of Zapatero wood for you woodwind makers.
