    Description

Civil War General Edward Davis Townsend,War Department General Orders #113 March 8, 1865.
Private John C. Wilhelm, Company “B” 203d Pennsylvania Volunteers, is hereby detached from his regiment, ........By Order of the Secretary of War:
    E.D. Townsend, Assistant Adjutant General.
General E.D. Townsend was principal executive officer of the War Department during the Civil War and was in close contact with President Lincoln and Secretary of War Edwin M. Stanton. He was chosen to represent the Army at the various funerals for Lincoln after the President’s assassination .
This original War Department Special Order # 113 , dated approximately a month before Lincoln’s assassination is very rare and hard to find in this excellent condition.. Great for display and framing.
Townsend is pictured in photo standing next to Lincoln’s coffin..pic not included.
Note: War Department Order is more beige than provided in picture, disregard shadows ..does have original folds. One of the best I have seen..this special Order came from a private collection and has been store in a acid free sleeve in a smoke free environment.
Will be shipped USPS 1st class flat & secure with tracking.
