    Description

This original Quarterly Return of Ordnance and Ordnance Stores is for the 2nd Quarter ending June 30, 1864, for Company A, 7th Regiment of the Massachusetts Infantry.  It is signed by Captain Christopher C. Weston.
This fascinating document shows the number of muskets/rifles (which were all Enfields), bayonets (very few), bayonet scabbards, cap pouches, cartridge boxes (including belts and plates), gun slings, waist belts and plates, gun tools (by type) and bullets, in Company A's inventory.  It is a full inventory, showing number on hand at the beginning of the quarter, number received, number issued and lost/destroyed, and final number on hand at the end of the quarter.
It is a fascinating look into the ordnance equipage of a typical Union Company three years into the war.  This Regiment saw action at Antietam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville and Gettysburg, and had returned to Massachusetts at the end of June 1864.
The document is in very good condition.  The ink is clear, and there are no water stains or major tears.  There are some small tears at a few of the folds.
    It measures 19 by 10
    ½
    inches.
Just a great piece of history!
