THESE SEEDS SOLD OUT IN 2020, SO GET THE 2021 CROP BEFORE IT SELLS OUT!!Grow your own Monkey Puzzle Tree! Araucaria Araucana is one of the most unique conifers on the planet! This tree dates back to the dinosaur age with a unique history on it's migration to the United States.
Sometimes called a "living fossil" because of a similar species in ancient prehistory, it's conservation status was declared ENDANGERED by the IUCN in 2013. In efforts to protect all trees, we will donate 10% of all sales to The Nature Conservancy. (Per ebay standards policy on donations.)
This particular tree has a wonderful romantic history! The trees, when mature, are either male or female. A male tree will
pollinate
a female tree up to 10km away!
Meet Linda our female Monkey Puzzle Tree, planted in our back yard by the then owner who had purchased her at the 1905 Lewis and Clark’s Centennial Exposition held in Portland Oregon.
This photo was taken in July 2020 with her devoted attendant “G”. You can see Linda is bursting with cones filled with seeds wanting to share them with you!
Meet Bonito! This is Linda’s husband that lives across the street! Bonito is in full preparedness for his Love with his pollination cones in full display at the ready!
This glorious love story only happens in July and August in Oregon, so this will be the only time of year that Linda and Bonito’s seeds are available.
“G” is committed to only selling newly harvested seeds. Each harvest is soaked in filtered warm water for 2 days prior to shipment and mailed in a moist pack.
So pre-order yours now!
These are not seeds from other years kept and stored. These seeds will fall in July/August 2021! Once you receive your seeds, planting is easy.
Re-soak the seeds for 24 hours prior to sowing.
Use a seed starting tray with sterile potting mix.
Plant seeds 2” apart and about ½ to ¾ inches deep with the pointy end facing down. Don’t cover the green leafy tail with potting mix.
Keep the potting mix damp until germination (takes 30-60 days).
Keep the seeds in a well lit area of no less that 60F or warmer.
Once seedlings are a few inches tall you can transplant to individual containers. Don’t disturb the roots, plant the seeding AND the potting soil.
Once saplings are 12-18” you can transplant into the ground.
Don’t worry about memorizing the instructions, they will be included in your order.
