Carnivorous butterwort plants are best watered with reverse osmosis, distilled, or deionized water. No fertilization is required for growth. When grown outdoors in the appropriate climate, these plants will catch natural prey on their own. Indoors they can be fed occasionally with dried blood worms found at most local pet supply stores. Tropical butterwort plants may enter a state of dormancy, changing its leaf type from that of a sticky carnivorous one to that of a more succulent one. Once environmental conditions become more favorable, they will switch production back to carnivorous leaf types and will again be ready to catch prey.
