PORTULACA MOLOKINIENSIS CUTTINGS LARGE YELLOW FLOWER

Description

This is the NOT your standard garden Portulaca (sometimes called Moss Roses). First described in 1986, from the tiny island of Molokini off Maui. Botanists found only 3 plants that the feral goats had not eaten. Since then it has been found in a very few sites on other nearby islands.
It is NOT a weedy plant like regular Portulacas. I have had very few of the seeds grow for me. Cuttings of the thick stems root easily. The plant is a long-lived perennial which can easily make a show plant.
It will fill a pot with stems pretty rapidly. Keep drier in the winter. In the summer, it responds well to plenty of moisture if the soil drains rapidly. Lava soil is great. It is an upright plant which branches readily. The large yellow flowers are very showy.
