    Description

This is a listing for one
    Sarracenia alata var. Rubrioperculata
. I feel that this species of
    Sarracenia
is quite underrated. It produces nice pitchers that darkens up to a purple / black. Like
    Sarracenia leucophylla
, the best pitchers arrive in fall.
The flowers are neon yellow. Under optimal sunlight, they turn quite dark near the top and have a purplish-black color under the hood.
    Sarracenia alata
is an easy plant to grow. Leave it outside under full sun all day in a tray of maybe 0.5 to 1 inches of water and it will happily grow for you. One thing to note, like
    Sarracenia minor var. Minor
    and
    Sarracenia leucophylla
    ,
    Sarracenia alata
are more prone to rot than other
    Sarracenia
so let the tray dry out before refilling it with water. This species also is pretty darn effective at catching bugs compared to other
    Sarracenia
    with the exception of
    Sarracenia leucophylla
    and
    Sarracenia xMooeri
. These must go dormant in the winter.
The plant shown in the pictures is the exact one you will
    receive
    .
The plant that you will receive is 18 inches tall on the tallest pitcher. Perhaps when they are established in a big pot after a few years, I could see them reaching 25-30 inches tall. There are three growth points on the rhizome, two flowering-sized and one of them is maybe 1 year from flowering. It is currently growing in a 3.75" pot.
The cross used for this plant was
    S. alata 'Black'
    x
    S. alata var. Nigropurpurea
. I labeled this individual as Clone AvR-1.4SJ.
This plant is flowering size and has flowered this year but a cold snap down to 25F this spring aborted 90% of my flowers. I have already cut off some damaged pitchers from hail in spring (man I hate NJ weather). The image is representative of what you will receive. Care instructions will be provided with packing. These plants are pest-free and have been outside all day. You can check the weather app for Edison, NJ to see what my normal conditions are like.
    They
    do not
need high humidity to grow. Please do not buy if you are in PR because I don't have the paperwork to send it there. No international sale either because I also don't have the paperwork.
Ships potted with USPS Priority Mail.
Please do note that it is quite difficult to ship
    Sarracenia
over 10" tall in its pot. I will do my best, but if I am not able to safely ship potted, it will ship unpotted.
I usually ship next business day but it may take an extra day or so if I am busy. Returns not accepted on live plants, seeds or rhizomes. I ensure live arrival guarantee. Pictures must be provided within 3 hours of delivery if the plant is dead for a refund or replacement. I cannot do anything if a negative review is left. Please contact me if you have any questions. Thanks. - Stephen
