    Mirage 40045 1/400 Type IXA Turm I German WW2 Submarine U-40
This auction is for one sealed kit as shown; the 2nd picture shows the contents of a second open kit. This is Mirage's late 1990s second issue of their Type IX series of submarine models and represents an IXC Turm I with the second conning tower and armament. It's a straightforward kit with restrained external detail and includes single 2cm and one 3.7cm aintiaircraft guns as well as a 10.5cm deck gun. I've seen the parts sprue and there appear to be, in addition, three more 2cm guns. This is a full-hull kit so if you want to model it on the surface, make sure your diorama base is deep enough to hold the hull or plan to do some hull surgery. There is a simple (read: unobtrusive) display stand if you want to leave the hull intact. Want to add something to the kit? Get some photo-etch for the railings, as the model doesn't include them. But no worries - Mirage makes them. Built it looks good! Decals, presumably in new condition, are provided for U-40 and contain Skull and Bones and Umbrella marking for the early-style conning tower, small U-40s for each side of the bow, and the ubiquitous Kriegmarine banner. The box is in new condition and this kit's lived its entire life in a smoke-free house. Build it!
