The world's first atomic sub-
marine was the U.S. Nautilus,
which made a voyage from the
Pacific to the Atlantic under
the ice of the Arctic Ocean,
carrying 116 men in compara-
tive comfort. Little disturbs
the smooth contour of the
vessel except the sail ' con-
taining the antennae and peri-
scopes, the bulges of sound
equipment and two fins.
