T
his is a Wood Deck for the 1/96 Cutty Sark manufactured by
Revell.
Our decks are micro-thin (about the thickness of a heavy sheet of paper) and made of 100% real wood, backed with thermal fleece to provide working strength. Our manufacturing process combines Laser Printing and Laser Cutting for extreme precision. Decks are intended to be cemented to plastic model with styrene cement, Contact Cement, or Epoxy. We do not provide a self-adhesive backing as our experience has shown that these can be problematic in positioning. With the thermal fleece backing, the glue has plenty of surface to bind to.
Way easier than laying individual planks, and the end result is much better in terms of fineness of detail, incorporation of accurate nibbing techniques, and overall effect. Be sure to check out the close-up photos to see the phenomenal detail printed into the sheet (the ruler, provided for scale on the overall hull photo is 24 inches long!). Now you can get the best-looking deck EVER on a model of the Cutty Sark!
As for the detail, this deck includes historically accurate planking, to scale, including 5-in-1 plank stagger and edge nibbing from bow to stern. The planking pattern molded into the deck is overscale, but our fine printing process allows for historic scale accuracy. Note the close-ups that feature the scale nibbing pattern at the bow, and the individual plank tint variations. Other manufacturer's wood decks simply burn in a pattern with the laser cutter, resulting in a very thick brown line - and these lines often appear quite far apart. Our process uses a very fine inkjet printed line 1/300 of an inch thick and printed in grey to simulate the oakum that was inserted between the actual deck planking on wooden sailing ships. We use this complicated two-step printing process because we are able to apply a line much thinner than "burning" in the pattern with the laser. Also, the simulated end-cuts between the planks are also printed in a tone consistent with the oakum, avoiding the extra-dark chocolaty-brown lines that can result when relying upon the laser to do this. The next result is that you have a real wood surface that looks like real wood, with accurate scale and color oakum lines to separate the individually colored planks.
Best of all, the main deck is printed an entire, continuous sheet that extends from the bow to the elevation of the poop deck, covering up those ugly seams in the three-piece deck as molded by Revell. The single sheet of wood is precision cut and drops directly into place onto the plastic deck in one step. Super-fast to do, and a superb result every time!
Decks are precision measured and cut to 1/100 of an inch accuracy, and all of our decks are custom tested on actual plastic kits. This deck is known to fit the Revell 1/96 Cutty Sark and the vintage Thermopylae also molded in 1/96. Note that this set is TWENTY-FOUR INCHES LONG, and consists of pieces for the main decks, deck house foundations, and deck house roofs. This is for the LARGEST Revell kit, not the smaller Cutty Sark kits offered by Revell or other manufacturers. (Those decks will be coming soon!)
If you want to make a Cutty Sark that has super-accurate detail and a gorgeous real wood deck, there is no better way to go than this deck.
